DEATHS – LINE OF DUTY

Twenty-Three (23) police officers have died in the line of duty thus far in 2016. That’s four (4) less police officer deaths than this time last year. Line of duty deaths are down 8% o. Gunfire deaths are up 300%. Auto related deaths are down 33%.

 

 

 

Twelve (12) have died since the last meeting. Five (5) were killed by gunfire, one (1) was accidental. Three (3) were killed in automobile collision. Two (2) were struck by vehicles. One (1) succumbed to a heart attack. One (1) was killed in a motorcycle accident.

 

During the past month, four (1) K-9s were killed in the line of duty.

  • Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee, K-9 “VIGOR” drowned in the Tellico River while he and his handler were tracking a suspect.

  • The budget was posted on the portal
  • We are dealing with the border strike force
  • 65 new cars were ordered and we are trying to get the older cars out off the road
  • The direction we are heading is very good
  • There hasn’t been anything we are not able to solve
  • Discussion on the district eight point system
  • Discussion on the 28-day review – it is a part of the lean program
  • Discussion on evolution, efficiency and technology
  • Discussion on naming freeways after fallen officers
  • Discussion on the duplication of services efficiency study is undergoing

  1. LEGAL, GREG ROBINSON:
  • Discussion on Director of a nonprofit organization
    • Minutes and attendance is our records
    • It is important to be familiar with our bylaws and articles
  • Our fundraises are in compliant with the laws

 

  1. LABOR, DALE NORRIS
  • Pension discussion
  • The agency is hiring a lot of veterans and a lot of these veterans have past injuries The problem will continue when the pension system will stop funding
  • Discussion on pay raise
    • What we are really competing with is the tax cuts, and that was the direct reason why they cut pay
    • That money was not given back and the 5% we are asking for is not close to what we gave up
  • Memorial signs, Phoenix PD has memorial signs and they are paid for by the city
  • Discussion on wills and beneficiaries
  • Dale ended with an Irish blessing

 

  1. LEGISLATIVE, KELSEY LUNDY
  • A budget has not yet been released
  • The governor requested $32 million for the new border strike force, in that budget
    • there are 48 new positions with the border strike force, but we have 100 open position that we have not filled
  • Further budget discussion – we continue working on the pay increase for DPS and as of now there is no opposition coming from the Governor’s Office
  • We are competing with education when it comes to raise, and we have a better chance
  • The Arizona Police Association is taking the lead on the fix on payroll deduction
  • Discussion on a law being pushed by the Grand Canyon University, to have sworn police officers working for the university, and the university is to offering a four year program, they are trying to have their own police department

  • Needs contacts for the cake order
  • Trying to increase the size of the walk way at the State Headquarters in front of the troopers statues
  • The design of the invitation is completed
  • Operational Communications employee will be reading the fallen officers names
  • The memorial is on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 0900 hours

 

  1. GOLF TOURNAMENT, DAVE SHROUDER
  • Forms for the 25th Annual AZ Troopers Memorial Golf Classic were reposted on the website
  • Early bird deadline for the golf tournament is April 1st
  • Cost for Association members is $100
  • Cost for non members is $125
  • The raffle will be the same as last year with the super ticket
  • The Gold Tournament is on Saturday, May 7, 2015
    • Registration starts at 5:30 am
    • Shotgun starts at 7:30 am

  1. NTC CONFERENCE, JIMMY CHAVEZ
  • Last count on the people registered for the NTC conference is 125
  • We will be using the square reader for the merchandize sold
  • For the ones attending the conference and the dinner please register
  • The resort will set up the tables for us at the hotel lobby
  • Sunday morning we will be stuffing the bags and we will start registration in the early afternoon
  • The agency will allow us to use the new silver and black car to display at the Conference

 

  1. OLD BUSINESS
  • Motion to add four scholarships
  • Send out emails to your two representatives and state senator regarding the pay increase
    • We need $9 million to get 5% pay increases across the border
  • AZ POST has a new director, Jack Lane
