Taylor Swift hands out free tickets to Mass. police after LEO’s death

FOXBORO, Mass. — Singer Taylor Swift provided free tickets to a number of officers in a Massachusetts town following an LEO’s death.

According to the Patriot Ledger, Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund said Swift provided “a significant number of tickets” to the town for her concert Thursday. The free tickets were handed out to a number of local police officers and firefighters in the town.

“My understanding is that they did it low-key and weren’t looking for publicity,” Hedlund said. “There were enough to send every police officer, firefighter and extended family to the concert, and then some.”

Quincy Police Department Capt. John Dougan said his department also received tickets, according to Boston.com. Dougan said the tickets were given to them by the Weymouth PD as a show of appreciation because officers from the Quincy PD helped Weymouth during their “hard time.”

Swift’s gift came after the death of Weymouth Sgt. Michael Chesna, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on July 15. An innocent bystander, 77-year-old Vera Adams, was also killed in the shooting while sitting in her home.

Hedlund said he’s grateful for the generous gesture by Swift.

“The gesture was absolutely generous, significant and appreciated,” he said
