Interim Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best—who last week was nominated by Mayor Jenny Durkan for the permanent chief’s job—fired two officers who fired on a fleeing vehicle last year.
Best found that Officers Kenneth Martin and Tabitha Sexton “recklessly fired at the stolen car after failing to follow department policies,” according to the Seattle Times .
Best’s decision comes after a lengthy internal investigation—conducted by the department’s Office of Police Accountability (OPA)—which resulted in the recommendation that Martin and Sexton be dismissed.
