MENTOR, Ohio — A Ohio police officer was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash.
The Mentor Police Department officer was helping a fellow LEO during a traffic stop Sunday morning when he was struck by a vehicle, Cleveland.com reported. The officer, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mentor police said one person was taken into custody in connection with the fatal hit-and-run, according to WKYC. It wasn’t immediately clear if the person in custody was the driver who struck and killed the officer.
Additional details about the crash were not immediately released.
