GLASGOW, Ky. — A Kentucky sheriff’s office is mourning the loss of one of their own after a detective died unexpectedly while on duty.
According to Deputy Mike Houchens, Detective Rusty Anderson died unexpectedly after suffering from a heart attack Sunday, WBKO reports. Anderson suffered the heart attack while assisting deputies with an ongoing investigation.
Houchens said the Barren County Sheriff’s Office is “devastated” by the detective’s death and and is working to make sure the fallen LEO’s family is taken care of. Houchens added that Anderson’s loss leaves a huge void in the department, according to The Bowling Green Daily News.
“We’re just trying to put one foot in front of the other right now,” Houchens said. “He was an integral part of our day-to-day operations and very sought after. A very big piece of our puzzle is missing right now. In this line of work we get really close to each other and families get really close. We’re going to miss him.”
Anderson, 47, had worked in law enforcement since 2000 and served the BCSO since 2005. The detective leaves behind a wife and two children.
