Phoenix — A traffic stop and search warrants lead to the seizure of illegal drugs, money, and the arrest of two subjects.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2017, Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Border Strike Force (AZBSF) state detectives were conducting surveillance in the area of 51st Avenue and Missouri in Glendale, AZ. Based on observations during the surveillance, state detectives suspected the business was used for the sale and distribution of methamphetamines.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., a black Honda Civic was seen going into the garage of the business and leaving a short time later. A trooper followed the vehicle away from the business and stopped it near 51st Avenue and Thomas. The vehicle was occupied by three subjects. The driver of the vehicle fled from the trooper on foot, the two passengers were detained. A search of the area was conducted but the driver was not found.

The vehicle contained 43 pounds of methamphetamines and $10,000.00 in U.S. currency. The two suspects in the vehicle were arrested on charges of transportation of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and money laundering.

As part of the investigation, search warrants were served at the local business and at a residence connected to the business. An additional 33 pounds of methamphetamine, 7.5 pounds of heroin, and 24 pounds of marijuana were seized. The street value of the drugs seized is $234,400.  The investigation is ongoing.

“The State of Arizona faces significant threats posed by transnational criminal organizations, this investigation by the AZDPS Border Strike Force removed 104.5 pounds of illegal drugs destined for communities throughout the state and country” Lieutenant Colonel Ken Hunter.
